PRP Q & A

What is PRP?

PRP is the abbreviation for platelet-rich plasma. Everyone has cells called platelets in their blood. You also have a liquid substance called plasma. Platelets help your blood clot and contain vital components that boost cell turnover and aid in the healing process.

To get PRP, Dr. Schneider extracts some blood from your body and places it in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the blood so that it’s platelet-rich and contains an ultra-concentration of growth factors.

PRP therapy is an innovative method of speeding your body’s natural healing process and has been especially useful in orthopedics and among athletes who suffer frequent injury. It has a number of other uses, including hair restoration, pain relief, and arthritis treatment.

Dr. Schneider uses PRP to treat signs of aging.

What is a PRP facial?

To rejuvenate your skin with a PRP facial, Dr. Schneider uses your own centrifuged blood and gently injects it back into target areas on your face. The platelets are extremely high in growth hormone and help to:

  • Stimulate cell turnover
  • Lift saggy skin
  • Reduce wrinkles
  • Minimize creases
  • Diminish acne scars
  • Downplay nasolabial folds
  • Decrease lip lines
  • Restore volume
  • Minimize large pores

The procedure promotes collagen production and makes you look like you’ve had a face-lift.

Is PRP safe?

Absolutely. Since it’s your own blood that Dr. Schneider uses, a PRP facial is completely natural. Dr. Schneider has years of experience performing PRP facials and takes great pains to keep your blood sterile throughout the procedure to eliminate the risk for infection.

Most people are candidates for PRP, however, if you have a blood disease or cancer of the blood, PRP is not recommended.

How long does it take to see results after PRP treatments?

Dr. Schneider meets with you to tailor a plan that addresses your needs and goals. She typically recommends a series of PRP facials for optimal results, but you’ll begin seeing improvements after only one session. As cells continue to turn over and collagen rebuilds, you’ll achieve a long-lasting, glowing complexion within a month or two.
